Discovering your work has been ruined or rearranged can be frustrating. Thankfully, there’s a way to find out who exactly has placed or removed a block in Minecraft if you’re playing on your own server.

In this guide, we’ll explain how to check who made changes to construction in Minecraft and answer some of the most common questions related to the topic.

Can You Check Who Placed a Block in Minecraft?

There is no way to find out who has placed a block in the Minecraft base game. But you can track all changes made on your server with third-party plugins. One of the most popular block logging tools is CoreProtect. Here’s how to install it using the Minecraft Server Manager:

  1. Head to the Minecraft Server Manager page and log in.
  2. Navigate to the “Plugins” tab, then search for “CoreProtect” and hit the “Enter” key.
  3. Click “Install” on the CoreProtect page.
  4. Restart your server from the Minecraft Server Manager main page after installing the plugin.

If you don’t have the Minecraft Server Manager, you can install the plugin following these instructions:

  1. Download the CoreProtect plugin on your computer.
  2. Place the CoreProtect .jar file into your Minecraft server “plugins” folder.
  3. Restart your server.

Once the plugin is installed, you can start tracking who made changes on your server. To do this, launch your server and bring up the command input box. Type in “/core inspect” or “/co i”. Then, use the controls listed below to check who has placed or removed a block in Minecraft:

  • Left-click a block to see which player placed it.
  • Right-click a block to see what adjacent block was removed.
  • Right-click a door, button, or lever to view who last used it.
  • Right-click an empty place to view what block was recently removed in that location and by whom.

Alternatively, you can use the LogBlock plugin. It doesn’t let you view who placed a specific block but provides information on all blocks placed by a specific player. Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Download the plugin on your device.
  2. Place the LogBlock .jar file into your Minecraft server “plugins” folder.
  3. Run your server, bring up the command input box, and type “stop” to bring the server to a clean stop.
  4. Rerun the server.

After the plugin is installed, you can track who made changes on your server by typing the following commands into the command input box:

  • “/lb sum p since 1d” – list all players on the server and the blocks they’ve changed in the past 24 hours.
  • “/lb player <name> sum blocks” – view all blocks a specific player has changed.
