After a long wait and repeated delays, Halo Infinite finally saw the light of day on Nov. 15, 2021. While the game itself is free in multiplayer mode, Battle Passes and accessories can only be purchased with premium in-game currency. Unfortunately, you can only obtain this premium currency by purchasing it with real money – until recently. So, running into an issue with your purchase can create quite a setback in your game progress.
If you’ve been having problems purchasing Halo Infinite credits, don’t worry, you’re not alone. However, there are many possible fixes, so read on for potential solutions!
Halo Infinite Can’t Purchase Credits Fixes
Several things can cause the failure of a purchase. Here is what to look out for:
Check the Servers
Often, the root of the problem is not on your end. Your purchase may not go through because the game servers are experiencing issues. If there are indications of server issues, it’s best to wait it out and purchase credits later.
Ensure Your Payment Method Is Working
If the servers are fine, your payment method is the next thing to check. Ensure that your credit or debit card has not expired recently and check whether you have sufficient funds in your account.
At this point, you probably don’t want to contact your bank yet. However, if the other steps listed don’t solve the issue, it’s worth calling them to ask whether the payment may have been put on hold. Otherwise, you can always try another payment method, such as PayPal or your Steam Wallet.
Enable Steam Overlay
One of the most common reasons a player can’t purchase credits is not having Steam Overlay enabled. Open the in-game store and click on the credits you want to buy. A popup window will ask you to confirm your decision. If nothing happens after this, you probably don’t have Steam Overlay enabled.
Here’s how to enable it:
- Open Steam and go to your settings. They are located under “Steam” in the upper left corner.
- Click the “In-Game” option in the sidebar.
- Check the first box to enable overlay. If the box is already checked, uncheck it and click “Okay.” Then, recheck it and close the window by clicking “Okay.”
- Restart your system to put the new settings into action.
After completing these steps, the Steam window should open upon confirming your purchase choice.
Try a Different Store
There are several ways to purchase Halo Infinite credits, and if one store doesn’t work out, you can simply try another. Your options include the Microsoft Store and the Xbox Marketplace. Make sure you are using the correct accounts.
Re-Download the Game
Another common problem players experience is missing credits. This issue typically affects players who use the Steam version of the game in combination with the Microsoft Store.
After purchasing the credits from the Microsoft Store and logging into your game, you might find your purchase hasn’t been credited to your account. Before you repurchase the credits, check whether they charged your card. If your money was taken, then the purchase was successful. You can also look for a confirmation mail to be sure.
Here’s how to get the credits to show up:
- Uninstall your game.
- Re-download the game from the Microsoft Store—this is important.
- Log in, and your purchased credits should be in your account now.
You can also try reinstalling your game from the Xbox app. Removing the Steam version and using the Xbox version instead fixed the issue for some players.
Update the Game
There may be a bug that is preventing you from making your purchase. Ensure that you’re running the latest version of the game just in case this issue was already addressed. Open the game’s page in the Microsoft Store, Steam, or Xbox app, and look for updates.
Take a Look at the Game Files
A corrupted file can also cause issues with the game. Check the integrity of your files to eliminate this possibility:
- Open Steam and go to “Library.”
- Find Halo Infinite and open “Properties” by right-clicking the game and choosing it from the menu.
- Choose “Local Files” from the sidebar.
- Here, you will be able to verify the integrity of said files.
Wait until the scanning is complete and check if it solved the issue.
Restarting Your Device
Finally, it’s a good idea to restart your system whenever you tweak some settings. If a temporary error is causing the issues, this will solve it. Open the Start Menu and find the “Restart” option on a PC. On an Xbox, hold the Xbox button and then choose “Restart Console.”
Start Grinding
As mentioned in the beginning, until now, buying credits was the only way to obtain them in Halo Infinite. However, with the release of Season 2 at the beginning of May 2022, you may notice some changes. Now, you also have a chance to earn credits in-game and save a few bucks in the future.
This season, you will be able to earn 1000 credits in total, which is just enough to purchase the next Battle Pass later on. You can earn these credits by completing the premium track of Season 2’s Battle Pass. As you’re collecting XP and progressing through the tiers, you’ll keep unlocking rewards—including credits.
Of course, you first need to purchase the current Battle Pass to take advantage of this offer. For that, you’ll still need to spend real money for the credits. However, it’s another reason to fix your purchase issues as soon as possible.
Equip Yourself for the New Season
A lot of people are experiencing problems with credit purchases in Halo Infinite. Unfortunately, there is no cookie-cutter solution that works for everyone. With the new season already out, there’s no time to waste, though.
Hopefully, one of these methods helped you identify and fix your purchase issue. If you keep experiencing problems or found another solution, not on this list, don’t hesitate to share it below! It might help someone else.
