There are plenty of reasons to change the email on your Xbox account. It could be an old address you want to get rid of, one that gets crowded with spam and unnecessary emails, or maybe you want to organize all your accounts under one single address. This article shows you how to change your registered email address on your Xbox Account to avoid missing important messages.
Changing the Email Address on Your Xbox Account
Changing the old email address on your Xbox Live account requires you to change the details on your Microsoft Account. Unfortunately, the two services are connected, and Xbox doesn’t have a dedicated website of its own.
Be forewarned, though. If the email you used to sign up for is a Microsoft domain such as @Hotmail.com, @Outlook.com, or @Live.com, the email permanently gets removed. Microsoft doesn’t allow repeated use of any email addresses you added/created, even if the address got deleted.
To change your email, proceed to your Microsoft Account page. If you forgot your credentials, head to Microsoft’s forgot email or password page, and then follow these steps:
- Log in to your Microsoft Account if not already done.
- Click on the “Your Info” navigational link at the top of the page.
- Scroll down the page to the “Account info” section, then click on the “Edit account info” link on the right.
- The “Manage how you sign in to Microsoft” page appears. Click on “add email” within the “Account alias” section.
- Type in the new “email address,” then click on “Add alias.”
- Follow the instructions shown to Verify the address you just entered.
- Click on “Make Primary” to make the new email address the primary one for your account.
- Now, you can delete the old email if desired, as long as it is no longer the primary email. Choose which alias you want to delete, then click “Remove.”
- Select “Confirm” to complete the deletion process.
- You should now have a new email to sign in to your Xbox account.
Replacing a Lost Xbox Email Address
If you’ve lost your Xbox Sign-in email or forgotten the password you used to sign in, changing the old one will be a bit different. Xbox Support cannot help you change the address, so you’ll have to try and get into your account.
There are several ways to find the email address you used to sign up for your Xbox account. Once you have the correct email, you can use it to log into your account, change your password, or add an alias email.
Check Alternate Email Accounts to Find Your Primary Xbox Email
If you used an alternate email as an additional alias, or have a second one for confirmations emails, check your old messages. Any emails that include Microsoft billing or Xbox Live information may contain your primary Xbox email address.
