The Amazon Fire Tablet is a convenient tablet with a clear, big screen that’s mostly used for entertainment – streaming media, reading books, playing music, and various other fun activities.

Other than watching videos, this large display can be useful if you want to tweak and edit some of your media. Since it works on an Android-based operating system (Fire OS), it’s possible to get a wide range of editing tools for this device. This includes some video editing tools, too.

If you want to know how to edit videos on the Amazon Fire tablet, keep reading this article.

Is the Fire Tablet Good for Video Editing?

Although the Amazon Fire Tablet lacks some convenient video recording features (e.g. a high-quality rear camera), it still has a high-quality screen resolution. This enables you a better visual of the videos that you’re editing and you’ll have a clearer picture of what the video looks like on a bigger screen. In addition, the display screen is better than most smartphones, so no tiny details will accidentally slip under the radar.

Recent versions of the Fire Tablet (7,8, HD) have a decent amount of RAM and processors that can load and handle larger video files. Moreover, you can always expect editing to run smoothly. On top of that, the price of the Fire Tablet is much lower compared to similar tablets from Android and Apple.

However, you shouldn’t expect your Fire Tablet to perform as good as a high-end computer when it comes to video editing. The video editing apps have fewer features and possibilities than the editing software used on a PC. But if you need to perform some trimming, add some effects, and tidy up your video, your Fire Tablet does a pretty decent job.

Download a Video Editing App

Before you start editing videos with your Fire Tablet, you should download one of the video editing apps from the app store. Fortunately, there are plenty to choose from such as VivaVideo, VideoPad, VidTrim, and others.

To download one of these apps, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Fire’s home screen.
  2. Tap the ‘Search’ bar at the top of the screen.
    search
  3. Start typing one of the aforementioned apps (or other video editing app that you know).
  4. Tap the app when it appears on the screen.
  5. Tap ‘Get’.
    get
  6. Wait for the app to download.

Now you can find the app on the app screen and launch it.

How to Edit a Video?

Editing a video on a Fire Tablet is fairly simple once you have the necessary tools. Some features and interface will be different depending on the app that you’ve got, but overall, they all do a similar job. If you learn to use one, it’ll be much easier to learn the other. For example, let’s see how it works with the VivaVideo app.

Example: Editing Video with VivaVideo

When you first launch the VivaVideo app, you’ll see several possible options – you can edit a video, make a slideshow, capture a new video, add effects, etc. If you want to edit an older video, you can tap the ‘Edit’ button, but if you want to create a new one, tap ‘Capture’.

When you tap the ‘Edit’ button, the app will take you to the videos screen where you can choose one or more videos from your storage. Pick all the videos that you want to edit and select ‘Done’. Afterward, you’ll be able to crop a segment of that video so you just load that instead of the full-length recording.

The most important screen is the video editing screen. You’ll see three different tabs at the bottom – ‘Theme’, ‘Music’, and ‘Edit’.

theme

If you want your video to have a special filter/effect, you can tap the ‘Theme’ tab and choose one of the available themes. The ‘Music’ tab allows you to add music background to your video. Finally, the ‘Edit’ tab is where everything happens. Here you can add clip art and additional sound effects, texts, stickers, transitions, and various other edits.

The ‘Clip edit’ option is where you can trim, split, or duplicate the video that you’ve loaded. Therefore, if you want to make any additional edits to the loaded clips, just tap this option and try it out.

Unlocking More with Premium Apps

As you see, there’s more than enough editing possibilities in this app to cut and make a decent video. However, some of the apps are pretty limiting if you get them for free.

For example, VivaVideo only allows you to make five-minute videos in the free version. Some apps, on the other hand, don’t allow you to use the majority of features until you get the premium version.

Therefore, if you want to use the maximum potential of these video editing apps, you may need to pay up. That said, the free version is more than enough.
