The famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda spoke about the importance of having a device to record your daily thoughts. Otherwise, you could lose so many great ideas! Whether you’re a poet or not, the capability to record audio is something we could all utilize.
When Amazon launched the first version of the Kindle e-reader, it did exactly what it was touted to do. It was a device which would be your personal library, storing a massive collection of digital books. Fast forward ten years, and Amazon has made sure that the Kindle is not solely an e-reader anymore. It’s basically a tablet for all forms of digital content. Whether it’s ebooks, music, or videos you want to enjoy, play games, or even Skype call your friends and family, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD lets you do everything.
Unlike the first two generations of the Amazon Kindle Fire, the HD generation even boasts the capacity to help you record audio and video. It’s not surprising, since Amazon decided to introduce a camera to its e-reader for the first time, with the launch of the HD generation of e-readers.
In this article, we’re going to show you how to record audio on your Amazon Kindle Fire HD. This option can also be useful for recording memos or creative ideas on the go.
Built-In Microphones
The first thing that any device requires to record audio is a microphone. Before, you could still record audio on the Kindle Fire using an external mic. Fortunately, the Kindle Fire HD has an in-built mic and a camera which allows you to record audio and video clips. The device, however, runs on Amazon’s Fire OS, a forked version of Google’s AOSP (Android Open Source Project) operating system.
However, not all apps that work on Android will be compatible with the Fire OS. But worry not, as there are myriad ways of making sure that the Fire OS runs apps made for Android. You only have to do a quick internet search to find many sources to show how you can run Android apps on the Fire OS without rooting your Fire tablet. One process involves installing a few APK files on your tablet, while the other option requires you to run a script from a Windows PC. Both of these processes are fairly simple and won’t take more than half an hour of your time.
The Usability of Third-Party Apps
Once sure that Android apps are running on your Fire OS, you can download any number of voice recording apps to record audio on your Kindle Fire HD. Simply go to the Google Play Store and search for voice-recording apps.
The one app we recommend is the Easy Voice Recorder, which is available for free on Google Play Store. The reason we rate it so highly, apart from it being free of course, is the fact that it’s very simple to use and needs only 5Mb of space.
You don’t even need to create an account on the app to start using it. Just open the app and it will show exactly how many hours of audio you can record on your Fire HD, depending on how much storage is available. Click the red recording button, and you’re all set. You can then hit the Listen tab on the app to listen to what you’ve recorded. The files are created in .wav format, which is absolutely perfect for sound editing, if you want to play around with the files you created afterwards.
This is all you need to know about your Kindle Fire HD as a voice recorder. So what are you waiting for? Go and record some fun audio on your device. And if you have any tips or tricks, please do share them in the comments section below.
