Device Links
Even though there are over 82 million songs on Spotify, this music streaming app may not offer all your favorite tunes. Live performances, old songs, unpopular artists, remixes, covers, and songs in other languages may not be included in Spotify’s massive music library. That’s why Spotify gives its users the opportunity to upload their own music to their platform.
In this guide, we’ll go through the process of uploading music to your Spotify account across various devices. In addition, we’ll show you how to upload music to Spotify as an artist.
How to Upload Music to Spotify on a PC
Spotify offers a catalog of more than 82 million songs, with new songs added every day. The same moment a song is released, you’ll probably be able to find it in the “What’s New” playlist. As comprehensive as Spotify’s music catalog may be, not all songs can be found on this music streaming app. In some cases, users can’t find song covers, older music, less popular songs, or live performances in Spotify’s vast library. Some songs may be unavailable for legal reasons.
If you can’t find your favorite songs on Spotify, there is no reason for you to turn to other music apps. You can upload music to Spotify in the form of local files so all your music can be stored in one place. However, there are a few requirements you need to meet in order to do this.
Firstly, you need to be subscribed to Spotify Premium. You won’t be able to upload songs to your Spotify library with a free account. Secondly, you can only upload music to Spotify from the desktop app. You won’t be able to do this with the Spotify mobile app or the web player. Thirdly, the songs you want to upload to Spotify must exist as local files on your computer. Make sure all the songs you want to upload are neatly organized in one folder on your computer.
Now that we’ve gone through the requirements for uploading music to Spotify, here’s how you can do it on your computer.
- Open the Spotify desktop app.
- Navigate to your profile picture at the top of the screen.
- Go to “Settings” on the drop-down menu.
- Find “Local Files” on the list of options.
- Toggle the “Show Local Files” switch. Spotify will show you a list of folders by default, from which you can import music.
- Select “Add Source” and add the local folder where your music is stored.
- Proceed to “Your Library” on the left side of the desktop app.
- The “Local Files” section should appear here.
Now you can listen to that music on your computer with the Spotify desktop app. All the songs stored in the chosen local folder will appear in the “Local Files” folder on Spotify. At this point, you have the option to add each song from the “Local Files” folder to playlists in your Spotify library. However, you won’t be able to add them to the “Liked” playlist.
How to Upload Music to Spotify on an iPhone
The whole point of uploading music to Spotify is so you can listen to it on your phone. If you just want to stream music on your computer, you don’t need to upload it to Spotify. You can just listen to it on your computer using a music player.
As mentioned before, you can only upload music to Spotify from the desktop app. Even though you can’t use the mobile app to do this, you do have the option to listen to the songs you imported to the desktop app on your phone. To be more precise, once you upload music to the Spotify desktop app, you will be able to stream it on the mobile app as well.
You’ll just have to organize the local songs into a playlist on the Spotify desktop app first. Your iPhone won’t be able to recognize the local files otherwise. In addition, your iPhone and your computer need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi for this to work.
Keep in mind that the option to stream local music is only available for Spotify Premium members. To enable streaming local music on the Spotify mobile app on your iPhone, this is what you need to do.
- Launch the Spotify app on your iPhone.
- Head over to the “Settings” icon in the upper-right corner.
- Find “Local Files” on the list of options.
- Toggle the “Local audio files” switch on the next page.
- Go to “Your Library” on the bottom menu.
- Open the playlist that contains the uploaded music.
- Tap on the download icon.
Now you will be able to listen to the uploaded music even when you’re offline. You can also add the uploaded songs to different playlists in your Spotify library.

How to Upload Music to Spotify From YouTube
There are two ways you can transfer music from YouTube to Spotify, with an online MP3 converter or an online playlist importer.
For the first option, let’s download a song from YouTube and then upload it to Spotify as a local file. You can use various online MP3 converters to download a song from YouTube. In this example, we’ll be using GetMP3. It’s free and easy to use. Here’s how it’s done:
- Go to YouTube.
- Find a song you want to download. Make sure it has good quality.
- Copy the URL at the top of the page.
- Head over to GetMP3 in a new window.
- Paste the URL into the search bar.
- Go to the magnifying glass icon or press “Enter” on your keyboard.
- Choose the audio format.
- Select the “Download” button.
Once the song is downloaded to your computer, you can upload it to your Spotify account using the instructions we explained above. Just make sure to place the song in a folder with your other music files. Launch the Spotify desktop app and follow the steps from the first section. Even though this is an easy process, you’ll have to repeat it for each song, so it may take some time.
For the second option, you can transfer songs from YouTube to Spotify with an online playlist importer. This method is a better solution if you want to upload an entire playlist, not just one song. There are many online playlist importers available, but we’ll be using Soundiiz. Here’s what you need to do.
- Go to Soundiiz on your preferred browser and click on the “Start Now” button.
- Select “Sign in with Spotify.”
- Allow Soundiiz access to your Spotify account.
- Sign in to your YouTube account and allow Soundiiz to manage your account.
- Click on the “Transfer” button.
- Then choose “Playlists.”
- Pick “YouTube” as your platform.
- Select the playlist that you want to upload to Spotify.
- Go to “Confirm and continue.”
- Click “Save Configuration.”
- Then select “Confirm.”
- Pick “Spotify” as the destination source.
That’s all there is to it. Your YouTube playlist will be uploaded to Spotify in a matter of seconds.
How to Upload Music to Spotify as an Artist
As an artist, uploading your music to Spotify is a great way of reaching more listeners. Keep in mind that this process is slightly more complicated than uploading random songs to your Spotify library.
The first step is to find a distribution company that will meet your requirements. Distributors are responsible for paying streaming royalties and music licensing. Different distribution companies require different fees, terms, and conditions.
Once you find a distributor company, you need to submit your music, artwork, and information about the song. The next step is to create a Spotify Artist account. This type of account lets you promote your music, keep track of audience statistics, and manage your profile.
You can also choose images for your music, albums, and profile picture. Of course, you should come up with a creative artist bio. Other options are to add an “Artist’s Pick” playlist, add a fan support link, and feature an artist playlist.
Have All Your Favorite Music on Spotify
Even though Spotify offers a wide variety of music, it doesn’t have all the songs you might like. That’s why Spotify lets you upload your music in the form of local files. Once you upload music from your computer to the desktop app, you’ll be able to listen to it on the Spotify mobile app as well. Now you won’t have to download multiple music streaming apps just to have access to all your music. Everything will be organized in one place.
