How To Change your Bitmoji Pose in Snapchat

Since Bitmojis were introduced, Snapchat’s Snap Map has become a lot more interactive and fun. The map feature on Snapchat lets your friends see where you are and what you’re up to when you’re using the app.

How To Change your Bitmoji Pose in Snapchat

One of the first things that impact Bitmoji poses is your current location. Where you are has a lot to do with what your avatar looks like. Take airports for example. Being near or at the airport will change your cartoon character and show it traveling with luggage or even boarding a plane.

If you’re driving, your Bitmoji is probably also driving on the Snap Map. But it’s not just actions and locations that alter the Bitmoji’s pose. The time of day also has an impact.

You will notice that a period of inactivity, while the app is still on, can change your Bitmoji’s pose to a person sleeping in an armchair.

Understanding Bitmojis

Your Snapchat Avatar can be easily created and customized by downloading the Bitmoji app from the App Store or Google Play Store. The app allows you to change the hairstyles, eye color, body type, accessories, clothing, and all of the things that make your character unique.

To use these Avatars you must download the app and log in using your Snapchat credentials. The app will guide you through this process. If you haven’t created your Bitmoji yet do so in the Bitmoji app then tap on the profile option in Snapchat and tap ‘Add Bitmoji’.

Once set up, your Snapchat profile will reflect the cartoon version of you!

Choosing Who Sees Your Location

Snapchat lets you choose if people can see where you are or not. By making your location private to other users, you will also change the appearance of your Bitmoji. It will show on the map holding a white traffic sign that covers the face.

This is also called “Ghost Mode”.

  1. Go to your Snap Map.
  2. Tap the settings icon.
  3. Toggle “Ghost Mode” to off.

You can also make it so only a few people see where you are and what you’re doing on the snap map. Instead of selecting “Ghost Mode”, tap on “My Friends, Except…” or “Only These Friends…” from the same settings page. You can then give access to just some of your friends.

If you’d like others to see your avatar and all the neat poses you select in the future you will need to come out of “Ghost Mode.”

Changing Your Bitmoji Pose

While you can’t mimic certain activities, you can change your avatar to do fun or unique things within Snapchat. For example, you can change your Bitmoji to drinking an entire pot of coffee for fun! You can also change your outfits from within Snapchat.

To customize your Bitmoji within Snapchat do this:

  1. Open Snapchat and tap on your Bitmoji in the upper left-hand corner.
  2. Scroll down to Snap Map and tap it.
  3. If necessary tap ”Enable Location” – Keep in mind you can choose to only share your location with certain friends and contacts by tapping the settings cog in the pop-up window.
  4. Tap your avatar on the map.
  5. Scroll through the list of available options – there are a lot of options!
  6. Tap on the one that suits you!

If you’d like to do more than just poses you can! Aside from all of the options we’ve already discussed did you know you can change your avatar’s selfie? At the time of this writing, you can add a face mask, animal ears, and other cute or funny additions to your cartoon characters’ face.

To change your selfie:

  1. Tap on your Bitmoji in the upper left-hand corner of Snapchat.
  2. On the next screen, tap on your Bitmoji once again and select “Change Selfie” from the pop-up menu.
  3. Tap the selfie that suits your wants.

The new selfie will instantly upload in Snap Maps for all your friends to see.

How Does the App Track Your Activities?

Thanks to the complex nature of today’s smartphones, it is very easy for apps to track you.

How does Snapchat know that you’re flying? It looks at the altitude readings. If you’re over a certain altitude, it decides that you must be flying and it will change your Bitmoji’s pose to show it flying in a plane.

The app can also determine how fast you’re traveling on the ground. If you move constantly and at high speeds, the app realizes that you might be driving so it will put your Snap Map avatar in a car. This is somewhat funny since you could be riding a bike at a high speed and the app might still show you as driving.

There’s one particular Bitmoji pose that confuses some users, and that’s the sleeping Bitmoji. How can Snapchat determine that you’re sleeping? It’s not like it can monitor your pulse or brainwaves.

This has to do with how long you’ve been idle for. If there’s no activity on the Snap Map and on Snapchat for over one hour, the Bitmoji’s pose will assume a resting position and the “Zzz” indicator.

However, this only happens if you’re idle on the app and map. The “Zzz” pose also won’t show if you close the app. If you’re not on Snapchat, then the Bitmoji will just disappear from the Snap Map after a while.

How to Customize Bitmojis

Assuming you already have Bitmoji installed, bring up your Snapchat interface.

Changing the Bitmoji selfie will change the appearance of your Bitmoji on your Snapchat interface. You can use it to express your mood since all the selfie options include various facial expressions.

Making changes to Bitmoji’s outfit is quite self-explanatory. Snapchat provides you with a list of at least 100 different outfits and outfit combinations.

Bitmojis – Fun and Scary at the Same Time

Privacy is one of the more important concerns for most social media users today. The addition of Snap Maps raised a lot of concerns about location privacy and the dangers of letting others know your location. Although Bitmojis are fun and you’d like to display them for everyone to see, it’s important to remember that not everyone is your friend.

Whether you’ve set your Snapchat profile to ‘Ghost Mode’ or you’re open to showing everyone where you are and what you’re doing, you should be cautious.
