How To Change Streak Emojis in Snapchat

Like every other social media platform, Snapchat comes with its own default emojis that signal specific moods, interactions, and relationships between you and your contacts.

This holds true for anything from BFFs to Snapstreaks. But keeping the default emojis can get boring after a while. A bit of personalization goes a long way towards making your profile and contact list look more interesting.

If you want to learn how streak-emojis work and how you can customize them, check out the following tutorial.

The Meaning Of Streak Emojis

By default, Snapchat provides users with three types of streak emojis:

snapchat-emojis

Fire

The fire emoji shows that you and a fellow Snapchatter have been snapping each other daily, maintaining a Snapstreak. For the few days of maintaining a streak, you won’t see any emoji at all. After three days, the fire emoji will appear. The number next to the fire emoji indicates how many days you’ve been on a streak for with this person.

Some conditions need to be met before the fire emoji appears. First of all, you both have to send snaps to each other at least once every 24 hours. Secondly, you need to keep doing this for at least three days before the emoji appears. That’s the minimum amount of time required for this type of communication to be labeled a Snapstreak.

Hundred

As we mentioned before, a number will appear next to the fire emoji that indicates how many days your streak has been active. When you reach 100 consecutive days, the hundred emoji will appear in front of the streak emoji instead of the basic number. As your streak continues, you’ll see the number next to the hundred emoji increase, though the emoji itself will not count up with you.

Hourglass

The hourglass emoji is what you see when the streak is almost over. This indicates that you don’t have much time left before the streak resets. If you want to keep it going, you’ll need to send a snap asap and hope to get one back.

The hourglass emoji appears after 20 hours of radio silence, so you and your friend have four hours left to keep the streak going.

How To Change Streak Emojis

With each day you add to a Snapchat streak you’re changing the default number emoji since the number of days keeps going up.

But, you can also change the standard fire emoji to something else. Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Open the Snapchat app.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top-left corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. Scroll down and tap Customize Emojis.
  5. Scroll down and tap Snapstreak!
  6. Select any emoji you want from the list (note that the “fire emoji” will be the first one on the list)

There you have it, now you can use a regular smiley face, a tree, an animal, or any other emoji as your Snapstreak emoji.

Note that when you make this change, you won’t break your streak. The fire emoji will simply be changed but the number displaying how long your streak will remain unaltered.

If you also want to change the hourglass emoji, you’re out of luck. You can’t alter it in the Snapstreak! preferences, perhaps because it’s only temporary and lasts until you and your friend exchange snaps or you let the streak drop.

The hundred emoji is also set in stone for now. When you hit the hundredth day on your Snapstreak, you will get this emoji displayed in front of your streak emoji. You can’t change this, and you also can’t use different emojis to replace the number of days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some other questions we’ve been asked about Snapchat emojis:

Can I replace other emojis?

The short answer is yes. If you follow the previously mentioned path, “Settings > Customize Emojis”, you will notice that there’s an extensive list of other features besides Snapstreak! that you can experiment with.

Feel free to customize your Super BFF, BFF, Besties, BFs, Mutual Besties, and Mutual BFs. This can help you make your contact list look unique and more descriptive than the default version.

How can I get rid of Snapstreaks?

If you want to get rid of your existing Snapstreaks, there are a few different options. Unfortunately, Snapchat doesn’t have a setting for disabling streaks altogether, so you’ll have to keep removing them if you want them to stay gone.

The first and most obvious way to get rid of a Snapchat streak is to ignore the other person on Snapchat for at least 24 hours. Sometimes this takes a little longer, as Snapchat gives its users a little leniency on the 24-hour response period. But if you wait at least a day and a few hours, you should reset your streaks.

The second way to get rid of a streak is to reset your friend’s emojis to default. To do this, tap your profile picture in the top-left of the screen, tap the Settings icon in the top-right, then tap Customize Emojis. From here, scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen and tap Reset to default. This will return all of your friend emojis to their default settings and clear all of your current streak info.

Will my friend see my updated emoji?

Unfortunately no. The Snapstreak emojis are only viewable to the one who updated it.

Stop Chasing The Mythical Mountain

According to internet gossip, there’s a mountain emoji that pops up for very long active streaks. However, no one has yet been able to verify just how long a streak like that would have to be. That’s because no one has actually posted a screenshot of the mountain emoji.

Some people have maintained streaks of over 1,000 or 2,000 days. And still, there’s no actual proof of the mythical mountain’s existence.

The good news is that you don’t have to wait forever to change your fire emoji into something else. If you follow this tutorial you can change your streak emoji at any time and into anything else available in the emoji list.
