There’s always been the possibility of connecting multiple Tweets and creating a thread, but adding Tweets to an existing thread is something new.

Before, you could simply locate an old thread that you wanted to update, select one of the Tweets, and add a new one.

Now, if you wish to comment on an old topic again, you don’t need to start a new thread or scroll endlessly anymore. As you compose your newest comment, you can now easily link the new Tweet with the old one and launch your followers back to the original thread.

Here’s how you can do it from your desktop computer.

1. Log in to your Twitter account.
   
2. Click on the “What’s happening?” field at the top to start typing your Tweet.
   
3. Open more options by pulling down from the compose window.
4. Choose whether you want to “Add” to your last Tweet or “Continue Thread.”
   
5. To add a new Tweet to an old thread, click the three dots and select the desired thread.
6. Finish typing your Tweet and select “Tweet” to publish it.
   

See? A piece of cake. Maybe you can’t edit your Tweets (and you might be wondering if you’ll ever be able to do so), but this is as close as it gets for now. At least you have a chance to add new insight to an old comment.

How to Add Existing Tweets to a Thread on Android

If you’re an Android user, here’s what you need to do to add new Tweets to an old thread.

1. Open Twitter on your smartphone or tablet.
   
2. To start typing a new Tweet, select the blue “Compose” icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
   
3. Swipe down to reveal the “Continue Thread” feature.
   
4. Tap it and find the thread to which you’d like to add additional information.
   
5. Enter your new Tweet and tap the publish icon to share it with your followers.

How to Add Existing Tweets to a Thread on iPhone

If you’re an iOS user, you may have had trouble with this new feature initially. However, it now works seamlessly, so you can also add new comments to your old Tweets in a more straightforward way.

1. Launch Twitter on your phone or tablet and log in.
   
2. Select the “Compose” icon (the plus sign and a feather) to enter a new Tweet.
   
3. Swipe down to show the “Continue Thread” option and tap it.
4. Find a thread to which you want to add the new Tweet.
5. When done typing, tap “Tweet” to publish the newest addition to your existing thread.
   

How to Create a Twitter Thread

Creating threads on Twitter lets you connect your extensive thoughts in a tidier manner. Here’s a reminder of how to create a thread.

Note that there’s an unwritten rule that marking your Tweets as 1/5 (meaning 1 of 5), 2/5 (2 of 5), etc., makes it easier to follow the thread.

1. Open your Twitter app or navigate to the official website in a browser.
   
2. Sign in to your account and select the “Compose” icon to create a new Tweet.
   
3. Enter the first Tweet of your thread. You’ll instantly see when you’re over the character limit because that part of the Tweet will be highlighted.
   
4. When you’re done with the first Tweet, you’ll see a small blue plus sign in the lower right corner of the window, just above your keyboard.
   
5. Click or tap it and add a new Tweet to your thread. Repeat this step multiple times until you finish your thread.
   
6. When you finish typing the last Tweet, select “Tweet all” to publish your thread.
   

This way, you’re publishing multiple Tweets at once instead of posting them one by one. They will appear in a thread and make more sense for your followers to share on their feeds.

How to Create a Tweetstorm

Twitter launched threads several years ago, although many people still refer to these as “tweetstorms,” a term that may have a negative connotation. What do we mean?

Well, since the number of Tweets in a tweetstorm can be as many as 25, many Twitter users will tell users who unleash such a tweetstorm to just “get a blog.” The whole point of this social platform is to post short forms, but the tweetstorms seem to go directly against this “rule.” Not to mention that Twitter increased the character limit for a Tweet from 140 to 280.
