How to Remove Fleets in Twitter

At the very end of 2020, Twitter decided to join Instagram and Facebook, and a few other platforms and create stories for their users as well. These stories are called fleets, and the overall reception of the concept was a mixed bag.

Some people loved it and hopped on the fleets train immediately. Others just think that there’s no room for stories on Twitter.

If you belong to the latter group, then you’ll probably want to remove the fleets from your Twitter feed. In this article, we’ll discuss how the fleets work and how you can manage them.

How to Remove Fleets in Twitter on iOS and Android

Even though Twitter is available for desktop, there’s no doubt that you get the most out of it your smartphone. Besides, it’s exponentially more convenient to use Twitter on your smartphone.

When it comes to Twitter fleets, the good news is that both the Android and iOS Twitter app is identical and it doesn’t matter which device you’re using as the interface is exactly the same. That means that steps to remove fleets are going to be the same on both.

Before we guide you through the process of removing fleets, you have to understand that the only way you can do that is by muting the person posting the fleet.

You have to mute each person who posts them individually, and once you do, you won’t see fleets anymore. Also, just because you mute someone’s fleets doesn’t mean you won’t be able to see their tweets on the feed. So, here’s how you mute a fleet of any Twitter user:

  1. Launch your Twitter app. On top of the screen, tap on the first fleet.
  2. When the story opens, tap on the three vertical dots in the screen’s top right-hand corner.
  3. At the bottom of the screen, a pop-up window will appear. Tap on the “Mute @username.”
  4. Another screen will appear, asking you to confirm that you want to mute this user’s fleets. Select “Mute Fleets.”

You also have the option to “Mute Fleets and Tweets.”

Unfortunately, the fleets on Twitter are not yet available on the web version of Twitter, regardless of which browser you’re using.

If you log into your Twitter account using Chrome, Safari, or Firefox, you won’t see any fleets from the people you follow at the top of the screen, where they are on the app.

It’s not clear when this feature will become available on the web version, but it’s safe to say that Twitter will likely introduce it at some point in the future.

You Don’t Have to Fleet if You Don’t Want To

Unlike most other social media platforms, Twitter relies mostly on the written word. Composing an impactful or super funny tweet that will go viral is something most passionate Twitter users strive for. Then you can pin that tweet at the top of your home feed proudly.

Fleets don’t exactly fit into this concept, as they are fleeting and more image orientated. Still, there are fun ways you can use them. And if you’re still not a fan, either stick to the web on Twitter or try muting fleets that are particularly frustrating.
